Aurora’s Serenade

Look Inside
Composer: Hauta-aho, Teppo
Instrumentation: Double Bass Solo
Publisher: Recital Music

Description

Composed to mark Mozart’s 250th anniversary in 2006, and based on the name of the composer’s young grand-daughter Aurora Merivan, this extended one-movement work is a glorious essay using the entire range of the double bass, particularly harmonics. There are technical and musical challenges in equal measure and this evocative and impressive work is Hauta-aho at his most lyrical and inventive. Ideal for the adventurous bassist. Premiered to great acclaim by the composer in 2007 at the Janacek Academy of Music and Drama (Brno, Czech Republic).
