Through a variety of styles and articulation, the young bassist will experience the rich, full sound and rhythmic flexibility, which are the characteristics of the bass and define the bassist.

Whether being moved by the beauty of the long bow sound in ‘Down the Road’ or feeling ‘in the pocket’ playing the jazz swing style of ‘Step Right Up,’ the young bassist will realize that no other instrument can make the same connection between musician, soul, and instrument.

These bass solos are in the ‘Solo and Ensemble Suggested List of Music for Junior ‘ of the Ohio Music Education Association (USA). There are also a few pieces from this book that are currently in the NYSSMA solos manual in the USA.

About the composer:

Dennis Leogrande (1947-2024) was a music educator and supervisor of music in New Jersey (USA) public schools, where he taught band and string instruments to students ages four through eighteen as well as directed bands, jazz ensembles, and orchestras. He held a Masters degree in Music Education from New York University and a Supervisor of Music degree.

In addition to his teaching, Mr. Leogrande has numerous works published for the educational market, he composed music for animated films and operated a digital recording studio where he recorded local artists.
