Written in memory of František Pošta and ‘the Singing Double Bass’, this short lyrical contemporary solo explores beautiful sound worlds, but still within …a recognisably tonal idiom. The music is heartfelt and sincere with a bleakness of texture, enabling the bassist to demonstrate more than simply technique. Pieni Elegia (A Little Elegy) is evocative, ethereal and impressive, and is always successful in performance. Pizzicato and arco techniques are contrasted but sul ponticello and harmonic chord effects, but a modern lyricism is the overriding quality. This edition includes piano accompaniments for both solo and orchestral tuning.
